Broun Applauds Supreme Court Ruling on Hobby Lobby

Washington, DC –  U.S. Representative Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) today released the following statement after the Supreme Court released their decision regarding Hobby Lobby’s challenge to Obamacare’s “contraception mandate.” The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby that for-profit businesses with religious objections can opt out of paying for contraception as mandated by Obamacare.

Said Congressman Paul Broun, “I applaud today’s decision by the Supreme Court, which represents a landmark victory for religious freedom and family businesses. The First Amendment acknowledges and protects our right to freedom of religion from government interference - and today’s ruling affirms broad protections under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act apply to businesses that act out their faith through the way they run their day-to-day operations. Furthermore, this ruling once again proves that Obamacare is totally unworkable, far too overreaching, and a burden on businesses and our economy. We must repeal Obamacare in full and put in place the only true solution – the Patient OPTION Act.

“While today we celebrate this important victory for religious freedom, our work is not done. I pledge to Georgians that I will continue to work to repeal Obamacare in full, and press forward in ensuring America’s Constitutional rights are protected from the big government policies of this Administration.”
