Washington, DC – U.S. Congressman Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) today released the following statement after signing a letter to President Obama, requesting the immediate resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, Under Secretary Robert Petzel, and Under Secretary Allison Hickey. Dr. Broun’s request comes in response to the recent revelations of secret waiting lists, falsified information, preventable patient deaths, delayed treatments, and an unexcusable backlog at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The full text of the letter can be found here.

“It is clear that we have an utter leadership failure within the VA system. For the sake of those who so bravely served our nation, we cannot have another day pass without addressing this issue,” said Representative Paul Broun. “As a U.S. Marine and member of the Navy Reserves, I hold the sacrifices of our nation’s veterans in the highest regard. In fact, I consider taking care of our veterans both a moral imperative and national security issue. The federal government must fulfill the promises they’ve made to our veterans – if they fail to do so, how are we going to recruit brave men and women and world class leaders in our military? The negligence and delayed care seen at our VA Health Centers is inexcusable – for this reason, I join my colleagues in requesting Secretary Shinseki’s immediate resignation.”
