U.S. Congressman Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) today released the following statement announcing the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons’ (AAPS) endorsement of H.R. 2900, the Patient OPTION Act. H.R. 2900 would repeal Obamacare in full and replace it with free-market, patient-centered solutions. AAPS is a non-partisan professional association of physicians that has been dedicated to preserving the sanctity of the patient-physician relationship and the practice of private medicine since 1943.

“As a medical doctor, I know how Obamacare threatens the doctor-patient relationship, increases costs, and lessens the quality of care,” said Dr. Paul Broun. “Americans deserve better. That is why I have introduced a clear, concise, 77 page bill that completely removes government from the doctor-patient relationship, and puts in place market-based polices that would make healthcare more affordable and accessible for all Americans – even those with pre-existing conditions. Through free-market, and patient-centered initiatives, my Patient OPTION Act would make health insurance cheaper for everyone,  provide access to quality care for all Americans, and save Medicare from going broke. With the support of AAPS and through the voice of ‘We the People’, we can continue to work together to pass and put in place legislation such as my Patient OPTION Act to empower patients when it comes to making their health care decisions.”

“At a time when the American medical system is facing its destruction at the hands of Obamacare, AAPS commends Dr. Paul Broun for his advocacy on behalf of patients and doctors,” said Executive Director of AAPS, Dr. Jane Orient. “AAPS members believe that harmful laws cannot be fixed by adding new regulatory burdens. True reform starts with repealing laws and correcting errors, restoring the freedom, under constitutionally limited government, that made America great. That is why we have endorsed Dr. Paul Broun’s H.R. 2900, the Patient OPTION Act. No other bill takes as bold of steps as H.R. 2900 does to begin rolling back the many decades of failed policies that have increasingly subjugated patient care to the interest of third parties and thwarted free market forces from providing a wealth of low cost, high-quality medical care. AAPS looks forward to supporting Dr. Broun’s continued efforts to empower patients and their physicians.”
